Estate Agent

An estate agent oversees the selling or renting of property or land. For example if you were looking to sell your home then you would most likely contact an estate agent, who for a fee would value, advertise and then sell your home for you taking a percentage of the sale price as part of their fee. Naturally if you were looking to buy a home then an estate agent would be the first port of call. However it is not only homes for sale that an estate agent will offer, an estate agent will also deal in property to be rented as well, again taking a fee from the landlord of the property for dealing with his or her various affairs regarding rental.

It is not just residential properties that an estate agent will be concerned with, although there certainly will be estate agents that specialise in this area, commercial properties and land, or indeed buildings of any type that are up for sale are the business of some estate agents. Estate agents are heavily regulated by the government as property is an area in which people are likely to be misled to taken advantage of, so there is legislation in place to prevent such an occurrence.
